“Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin…”Zechariah 4:10 TLB

God speaks these words to a people who felt discouraged. The temple looked unimpressive. The progress felt slow. What they saw didn’t match the promise they carried. Yet God gently reminded them: He is not intimidated by what looks small.

Small beginnings are not signs of weakness they are places where God delights to work. What starts quietly in obedience, faith, or persistence is precious in His eyes. The seed hidden in the soil already carries the fullness of the tree. Heaven measures differently than we do.

You may feel like your efforts are barely noticeable: a prayer whispered, a step of obedience taken with trembling, a faithful routine no one applauds. But God sees. And He rejoices not only when it’s finished, but when it begins.

What matters is not the size of the start, but the presence of God in it. When God is in the beginning, He will be faithful to bring it to completion.

Prayer
Lord, help me not to despise the small beginnings You have placed in my hands. Teach me to trust You when progress feels slow and unseen. I offer You my small steps, believing that You delight in them. Grow what You have started, and strengthen my faith as I wait on You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
