John 8:12 ICB
[12] Later, Jesus talked to the people again. He said, “I am the light of the world. The person who follows me will never live in darkness. He will have the light that gives life.”
You remember the blind man Bartimaeus?
Bartimaeus was not born blind, he just lost his sight. And became beggar who sit on the side of the road. When he heard that Jesus will pass by, he cried out and said ” Son of David, please help me. Driven by his desire to get back his sight, he cried more and more for help. Then Jesus stopped, called him and healed him.
Bartimaeus was not in the darkness anymore. He is able now to see the light. Not only from the sun and its surroundings light but Jesus itself, the true light.
Jesus is the light of world. The darkness cannot overpower him because he is God. He exposed those who are living in the darkness and gives light in their path. In him there is eternal life to those who believe.
And Bartimaeus was right to followed Jesus.
Many people today are in still in the darkness. Who haven’t heard and see the light. There are others who have been in the light, in Jesus but being blinded of what it is in the world. The lust of eyes, the lust of the flesh and the pride of life. They are being deceive of the false light.
But for Bartimaeus and for us today, we are once blind and live in the darkness. Now able to see the light that gives life because we believed in Jesus. We live in Christ and for Christ. The Holy Spirit is in us, who holds, guide and transform us.
Now then, let us continue to follow and live in the light. And become the light to others. And if darkness covers us and brings us away from it. Like Bartimaeus, we will also cry out for help, and for sure, Jesus will not just stop but will find us and bring us home.
