( How We Change-Week 6 )
#MONDAYRECAPFICB
WORD
You need the power of the Holy Spirit at work in and through your life to form you and shape you into the image of Jesus.
5 Pointers:
1.) Discipleship is a partnership with God.
You have a responsibility, and God has a responsibility. Without Him, we can’t, but without us, He won’t.
-Matthew 4:19
Jesus called out to them,” Come, follow me, and I will show you how to fish for people.
2.) We need access to a power beyond us- the Holy Spirit.
The Spirit is transforming us into the image of Jesus more and more each and every day over the course of our lives.
-2 Corinthians 3:17-18
Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.
3.) Abiding in Jesus is the beginning and the end in our discipleship to Him.
-John 15:5-8
“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. If you do not remain in me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned. If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.
4.) Discipleship and Transformation take time.
Discipleship is a long, slow journey, but it’s worth every step.- John Mark Comer
-Philippians 3:12-14
Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead,I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.
5.) Our trials and suffering can be catalyst for transformation.
Maybe you are in a challenging time, but also a defining moment. Don’t run away from it. Your job is not to escape, not to medicate, or distract yourself. Your job is to meet God in your place of pain.
– Romans 5:3-5
We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems and trials, for we know that they help us develop endurance.
perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.
*The Holy Spirit-
>He is the focal point
>He is involved in the teaching
>He’s involved in practice, and
>He’s involved in community
WORKS
Take time to do the following during your time in silence and solitude this week.
●Ask God to reveal one habit or relationship or pattern in your way of thinking that needs to be addressed. How is this affecting you and the way you interact with others?
●Then ask God to show you what practice of Jesus might help you in this area in your life. How might this practice help you offer yourself to God for the transforming work that only he can do?
