Jeremiah 45:5 NIV
[5] Should you then seek great things for yourself? Do not seek them. For I will bring disaster on all people, declares the Lord, but wherever you go I will let you escape with your life.’ ”
Baruch was a scribes in Jeremiah’s time. He was the one who wrote all God’s words that Jeremiah received from the Lord. He wrote it in the scroll.
In the time of Baruch’s existence. It was the time of Jerusalem distractions because of their sin. He saw how God’s people suffered. And he felt terrible and felt burdened of the situation. He said that God adds sorrow to his pain. He was worn out in groaning and found no rest ( Jeremiah 45:3 ).
No person wants to suffer or become happy when they get a problem. All of us, we want to avoid it. We run from it. All we want is to have a comfortable life without stress. And I believed that Baruch in his heart looked for a comfortable life. He wants to escape suffering. And God said to him, not to seek great things from himself. But instead, to continue to serve God despite the chaos around him and the burden he experienced. And God will take good care of him.
Looking also another heroes of faith in New Testament like Paul, Stephen, and many more. They also experienced pain and suffering in obeying God’s calling upon them. But they continue, endured, and pursue in seeking God’s kingdom and righteousness. And God did not leave them empty. Their reward is so great. The crown of life.
Matthew 6:33 NIV
[33] But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
Believers,at time when you have felt isolated or depressed, or when caught up in overwhelming and destructive situations, we may remember not to give up what God called us and not to seek good things for ourselves. But to endure and pursue God’s kingdom. For great is our reward also, the crown of life.
