Jeremiah 35:15 NIV
[15] “Each of you must turn from your wicked ways and reform your actions; do not follow other gods to serve them. Then you will live in the land I have given to you and your ancestors.”
Our God is Holy. He wants us to love him with all of our heart, mind, and soul.
He wants his people to honor and obey Him. But in the time of prophet Jeremiah, the people of Jerusalem and Judah do the opposite. They hardened their hearts to God many times.
Unlike the Recabites ,who demonstrate their obedience to their forefathers as solid as it was in the beginning. They stand faithful to it even if it only came from the mouth of a man and not from God. So God was pleased and blessed them by allowing their generations to serve Him.
God is omniscient, omnipotent, and omnipresent. He is the God of yesterday, today and forever, so thus, his word will endure forever. He fulfilled every word that he spoke before to his people and so to us in this generation. Though God loves his people, he still requires us to obey Him. Even his only son Jesus, in humility and obedience. Took the cross and suffered a criminal death for us to be forgiven.
If these words speak to us today, we may not harden our hearts, but let us listen to God. For he desires our obedience more than our sacrifice. He counts our obedience as a continuous act of worship to him. And he rewards those who give their full devotion to Him, from generation to generation.
When God speaks, listen.
