Treat One Another Part 5

ACCOUNTABILITY

Jesus, in His teachings, emphasized the importance of both giving and receiving spiritual correction among believers. It is a reflection of our love for one another and our commitment to walking in truth and righteousness.

In the book of Matthew, we are taught how to restore a sinning brother.

📖 Matthew 18:15-17 “If your brother sins against you, go tell him his fault, between you and him alone. If he listens to you, you have won your brother. But if he won’t listen, take one or two others with you, so that by the testimony of two or three witnesses every fact may be established.  If he doesn’t pay attention to them, tell the church. If he doesn’t pay attention even to the church, let him be like a Gentile and a tax collector to you.

As citizens of the kingdom of God, we are called to uphold one another in love and grace. This means being willing to humbly accept correction when needed, and also lovingly correcting our brothers and sisters in Christ when we see them straying from the path of righteousness.

📖 Brothers and sisters, if someone is overtaken in any wrongdoing, you who are spiritual, restore such a person with a gentle spirit, watching out for yourselves so that you also won’t be tempted. Carry one another’s burdens; in this way, you will fulfill the law of Christ. Galatians 6:1-2

Accountability is not about judgment or condemnation but about restoration and reconciliation.

📖 “Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.” James 5:16

🙏 Dear Lord, thank You for the gift of community and accountability in our journey of faith. Help us to approach correction with humility and grace, knowing that it is for our spiritual growth and well-being. May we always be open to giving and receiving correction in a spirit of love and truth, seeking to build one another up. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

Let us strive to embody the heart of Christ in all our interactions, holding each other accountable with love and compassion as we walk together in faith.
