“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.”
Matthew 11:28-30 MSG
One day we are on the mountaintop and the next day we find ourselves in the valley. No matter who we are and how much we strive in this life, most especially in our faith journey- no one is exempted from this. We come to a point in life where doing is no longer enough and realize we are drifting away from our reality.
No matter how distant we may feel today, thank God because Jesus knows and he didn’t condemn but he came to our rescue. He gives us all an open invitation.
Come to me, he said, with all that we are and what we have and don’t have. Jesus simply calls us to himself.
Get away with me. It is not vacation time or a place we need but just being with Jesus right here and now.
Walk with me. He already allowed us to do things our way and made us experience that no single human being would replace him. He is just right beside waiting for us to acknowledge him. My child, I am just right here walking with you. You were not alone because I am always with you and I love you through it all.
Work with me. You don’t have to do it all on your own. I am here to help and I care for you and the rest of you and around you. Even when you sleep, I am working on behalf of you. As you abide in me, you will bear much fruit with all your labor.
Lastly, Watch how I do it and you will learn from me. God didn’t call us to abandon us. He is providing for all that we need to live the life he called us to be. We learn how he lived his life while he was on Earth. He lives with a balance between resting, enjoying, and living out his calling. He makes it a habit to come to the Father so we can also follow.
May we be reminded to accept Jesus’ invitation daily to come to him, spend time with him, walk with him, work, and learn from him. Only then do we recover life when we learn to come to Jesus and realize that He is life and he got us.
It may not happen right away but keep coming to Him daily until you reach the promise of the unforced rhythm of his grace. It’s no longer just about rest but a lifestyle being built. God bless 🙏
