Have you ever tried asking God for favors and making a vow that if He will grant it, you will give or do something in return?
There is one story in the Book of Judges in the Old Testament about this mighty warrior named Jephthah who led the Israelites in a battle and emerged victorious against the Ammonites.
You can read his story in the Book of Judges from chapters 10 verse 6 to chapter 11 verse 40.
Before winning, he made a rushed vow to the Lord.
Judges 11:30-31 CSB
[30] Jephthah made this vow to the Lord: “If you, in fact, hand over the Ammonites to me, [31] whoever comes out the doors of my house to greet me when I return safely from the Ammonites will belong to the Lord, and I will offer that person as a burnt offering.”
And the Lord indeed granted him the victory. A win that made him devastated in the end because he needed to do what he had vowed to the Lord.
Judges 11:34-35 CSB
[34] When Jephthah went to his home in Mizpah, there was his daughter, coming out to meet him with tambourines and dancing! She was his only child; he had no other son or daughter besides her. [35] When he saw her, he tore his clothes and said, “No! Not my daughter! You have devastated me! You have brought great misery on me. I have given my word to the Lord and cannot take it back.”
He found out that it was her only child, a daughter who was so happy to meet him in his return, that would be the sacrifice. The daughter, however, courageously accepted her fate even though she needed to lament for it saying, “My father, you have given your word to the Lord. Do to me as you have said, for the Lord brought vengeance on your enemies, the Ammonites.”

This is a great reminder that we should be mindful of our actions and decisions in life, especially those that we utter on our lips because we have the accountability to do it.
Deuteronomy 23:23 ESV
[23] You shall be careful to do what has passed your lips, for you have voluntarily vowed to the Lord your God what you have promised with your mouth.
