Romans 13:8 AMPC
[8] Keep out of debt and owe no man anything, except to love one another; for he who loves his neighbor [who practices loving others] has fulfilled the Law [relating to one’s fellowmen, meeting all its requirements].
Jesus summarized the law, built on the twin foundations of love for God and for others ( Matthew 22:34-40). Apostle Paul once again reminds us of Jesus’ teaching throughout this part of Romans.
Our goal is to love God and to love others.
And this is the kind of love God wants:
A love that endures long and is patient and kind; a love that never is envious nor boils over with jealousy, is not boastful or vainglorious, does not display itself haughtily. It is not conceited (arrogant and inflated with pride); it is not rude (unmannerly) and does not act unbecomingly. Love (God’s love in us) does not insist on its rights or its way, for it is not self-seeking; it is not touchy or fretful or resentful; it takes no account of the evil done to it [it pays no attention to a suffered wrong]. It does not rejoice at injustice and unrighteousness but rejoices when right and truth prevail. Love bears up under anything and everything that comes, is ever ready to believe the best of every person, its hopes are fadeless under all circumstances, and it endures everything [without weakening]. Love never fails [never fades out or becomes obsolete or comes to an end]. ( 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 )
A sincere love for others will spill over into loving actions.
When we live and love rightly, we can’t help but obey whatever commandments God has given us.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, we thank you for your love and mercy. Thank you that you offered us forgiveness through your Son Jesus and giving us a new life. Thank you that your love is perfect, it never fails, and that nothing can separate us from your love. We pray that our lives will be filled with the overflowing power of your love and that we can be a blessing and make a difference in the lives of others.
Keep reminding us that the most significant thing that we can do is to love you and choose to love others. In Jesus’ name. AMEN
