God’s Blessings

In the book of Genesis chapter 27, you can read the ungodly behavior of Isaac’s family: from Esau who sold his birthright to Rebekah, and Jacob who lied and took advantage of Isaac’s old age.

As humans, if we think about it, we would say that the ungodly behavior of Jacob is not worthy to receive the blessings but God blessed Jacob and named him Israel.

“If we do good, we will receive good”, that’s what many of us believe. But unfortunately, that’s not how God works.

He blesses us not because we are good and deserving for no one is good except God ( Mark 10:18 ) but because even though we don’t deserve it, he remains faithful and gracious to us. ‭

2 Timothy 2:13 NIV‬‬
[13] if we are faithless, he remains faithful, for he cannot disown himself.

God’s plan and blessings to us are not dependent on our good works. The gospel shows us that God remains faithful to his covenant- the new covenant of Christ’s blood which he poured out for us.

Romans 5:8 NIV‬‬
[8] But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

No amount of sin and failures can change God’s blessings and the redemption that He offers through faith in His Son Jesus. Let us be joyful for God’s love is greater than our sin.

Prayer: Gracious God, Holy and righteous. Full of love and mercy. We praise you and honor you, God, for your love endures and is greater than our sin. We thank You that You gave up Your son Jesus for us to be forgiven and set free. We pray that you will continue to encounter those people who feel ashamed of their failures and lose hope in this life. Let them know and experience your forgiveness through faith in your son Jesus. Glory and honor belong to you alone.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
