When God created human beings, He called them very good. He made all of us in His image but humanity fell when Adam and Eve turned their hearts from God to good. Eating the fruit from the forbidden tree opened our awareness between good and evil.
From then on, people become conscious of their image both in the eyes of God and fellow human beings. We start to hide and blame others for our choices of mistakes just like Adam pointed to Eve and Eve towards the snake. But we also know that each receives their punishment with their deeds. The same is true with us as we follow Christ.
We are called together in the community but salvation is our responsibility.
Then Jesus called to the crowd to come and hear. “𝘈𝘭𝘭 𝘰𝘧 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘭𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘯,” he said, “𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘵𝘳𝘺 𝘵𝘰 𝘶𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘯𝘥. It’s not what goes into your body that defiles you; you are defiled by what comes from your heart.”
Mark 7:14-15 NLT
We may not control what is told about us but we can control what comes out of our mouth. We may not control what’s done to us but we can control our conduct. We may not control what we see but we can always look beyond and capture beauty. We may not control how we react but we can always choose how we respond afterwards. Our initial reaction is temporary but our response is what is important and will last for eternity.
It is not about what’s around you but what’s within you that shows who you are. Let’s hear this understand, for it is always our heart that matters to God.
May we give our hearts to God and out of the abundance of it overflows the way how we think, speak, and live. 🙏
