This reminder came to me through a dream today and I believe it is worth sharing.
In 3 John 1:11, we are told to imitate God, otherwise we aren’t his.
This is an order that we should strive for.
God is love, so we should try to be loving to others.
God is kind, so we should try to be kind to others.
God is patient, so we should try to be patient with others.
God is good, so we should try to be good to others.
When we imitate someone, we take on their qualities and characteristics, learn from them, and try to be like them.
When we imitate God, we become more like him. We become more loving, kind, patient, and good.
This is not an easy task, but it is worth pursuing.
Dear God,
I want to be more like you. I want to be loving, kind, patient, and good. Help me to imitate you in all that I do. Help me to love others as you love me. Help me to be kind to others, even when they are not kind to me. Help me to be patient with others, even when they are impatient with me. Help me to be good to others, even when they are not good to me.
I know that this is not so easy, but I am willing to try. I am willing to learn from you and to become more like you. I want to be the person that you created me to be.
In Jesus’ name, amen.
